Packing

This is the packing procedure for fish sent by us to you:-

  • All fish are bagged using 400 gauge plastic bags( These bags are more than twice the normal bag thickness we use in the shop )
  • extra spiny fish are double bagged
  • all bags have the corners heat sealed for safety
  • Fish are packed ( often singly)  in a lot of water with pure oxygen added
  • a polystyrene fish box is lined with layers of newspaper for extra insulation
  • the boxes are filled with extra bags of warm water for temperature stability
  • all boxes have heat packs added in the winter ( 2 in cold weather) to maintain temperature
  • often these boxes are encased in cardboard.

The box is then sent by carrier to your door to arrive between 8.00 am and 12.00 mid-day.

(certain areas may be "before 4.00pm" but our guarantee still applies)

Before Ordering

  • Browse through our Online Stock Lists and decide which fish you would like to order from us.

  • Remember all sizes quoted are approximate but are our best estimates of the fish in stock

  • Wherever possible we try to sex fish where requested, although we cannot guarantee this.

  • All fishes are named as we believe them to be, although in extreme cases it is possible that we may be mistaken. PLease tell us of any queries as we want to get everything right.

  • Please note .....O.O.S. means that we are temporarily OUT OF STOCK of that particular fish.

    Before Arrival

We keep the majority of our Tropical and Coldwater fish at a pH OF 7.00 - 7.5 AND AT A TEMPERATURE OF 24 - 27C.

WE MUST ASSUME THAT YOUR AQUARIUM IS AT SIMILAR VALUES TO THIS.

You should also ensure that :-

    • The ammonia and nitrite readings are zero.

    • Nitrate is below 25 ppm

    • that the tank is "fully cycled" i.e. fully matured with a mature filter.

    • the aquarium has adequate room for the fishes

On Arrival

Acclimatising your new fish

  • Your new fish have been carefully chosen and packed in oxygen to arrive safely with you.

  • They will have cooled over the period of time since then and may feel quite cold to the touch.. This will not be a problem.

  • Turn off the aquarium lights and float the plastic bag unopened for 15 minutes to adjust the temperature in the bag to your tank water temperature.

  • Then open the top of the bag and roll it down to form a collar so that the bag floats on the surface with the top open. This is essential otherwise oxygen cannot get into the water and the fish may die.

  • Our fish are packed in water ph 7.00 - 7.5 (unless specified differently) we expect your water to be very similar.

  • Over a period of 20 minutes, add water from your tank ( a cup at a time ) to the bag to adjust fluctuations in the different water conditions. Excess water can be tipped away.

  • After this 35 minutes or so gently lift the fish from the bag and allow them into your tank and discard the transit water.

  • They will need time to rest and probably wont want to feed for a day or so. Allow them to hide away, don't chase them out!

  • If your fish are badly stressed in some way in some cases it is best to release them into the tank more quickly. If this is the case ring us right away and we can advise you.

Guarantee

We give a live arrival guarantee and so if on the rare occasion a fish arrives dead we will issue a credit  (for the cost of the fish ) back to your card. To arrange this we require a phone call immediately on arrival (at the latest before 1.00 pm on the same day ).

The dead fish should be dried on some kitchen paper and returned by post in a plastic bag.

We will then ( on arrival ) arrange either a credit back to your card of the cost of the fish or arrange a replacement.

Please note , we reserve the right to choose whether to credit or replace the fish.

This guarantee does not cover the cost of carriage.
